regular show issue #1 variant cover for third eye comics!
i was really happy my editor let me bring back cloudy jane for this, i love her design so much. i hope she makes another appearance.

I love this artist to DEATH. Don’t get me wrong. But does anyone else see Marceline? I haven’t watched The Regular Show so I don’t know who came first but…

marceline came first, cloudy jane was a one-off character in the episode “yes dude, yes!”. the clothes she wears are different in the show to the ones i drew, i guess what i drew is pretty marceliney! it’s embarassing but…it’s kind of how i dress a lot orz jeggings, ankle boots and long shirts…it’s comfortable!

Hello! First, I want to say that I love Hemlock and I love your art style. It's clean and very unique, and a treat to look at. If I may, I've got a bit of a weird question. I've been drawing comics for a while and am thinking about doing my own webcomic, but I'm worried I don't have enough of the story plotted out. As a person who draws cool webcomics, do you think it's important to have the story finished before you even start to draw? Or should I just dive in and keep going?

i think it’s important to know the beginning and the ending. you don’t necessarily need to have it written out in great detail, but you need to know the direction you’re going.

the middle has a bit more room to play with, i think. for example, kolya being led to lumi by ulla was a totally last minute thing (originally he was just out looking for revenge by himself), but that small change actually helped me a lot with some plot holes i still had to fill in for chapter 4 and 5.

in this week’s hemlock update, a confession!i almost forgot to update tonight…i must be tired.

i can finally show this off now~! i did a cover for the new adventure time mini series “candy capers” written by by yuko ota, ananth panagariya and drawn by ian mcginty. the colours are a bit weird on the preview picture they’ve got over on bleeding cool though.
i also did a regular show cover for them, but i don’t think i’m allowed to show it yet. i hope i get to work with Boom! again in future, they’re awesome.

hemlock worldbuilding wednesday!

  • when sindri comments that lumi was raised by trolls, he actually meant it. as a baby, lumi was found in the snow by a trollmor, who mistook lumi for a runt and added her to her litter.
  • being raised by trolls, who are kind of stinky, meant that lumi’s sense of smell became stunted compared to other witches out of self preservation.
  • this is partly why she couldn’t smell the dawn soldier who was pretending to be her shawl, and why the human smell of tristan doesn’t bother her that much. on the other hand, night things have very good noses to help them in the dark, which is why tristan smells pretty terrible to sindri.
  • her poor sense of smell contributes to the fact she is an awful cook. things have to be really rotten for her to smell that she probably shouldn’t cook with it.
